Regionals

We were seated #4 going into Regionals and we played Powell first game that was seated #1.  Powell is a tough team, they had great defense and they were able to put the ball down.  We had some really good moments playing Powell, but it was just not enough.  We served really well with Powell.  We had quite a few girls that served 100%: Bekah, Kassidy Williams, Shawna, Tayln, and Vashti.  Kyla and Shawna both contributed with 2 aces each.  As far as hits, we had Vashti having 6 kills, Shawna and Teerstyn having 4 kills each.  Taylor did a great job passing for us, and her defense was great with 10 digs.  By losing to Powell, we had to play Lander.  This game determined if we were out or not.

Lander

My girls were ready to play!  We had beat Lander earlier in the year, so I felt pretty good going into this game.  They fought hard and they NEVER gave up.  I was very proud of the way the played all the way to the end.  I always told them that no matter what, as long as you gave 100%, win or lose, you will walk off the court with your head high knowing that you gave it your all.  I believe that even though we lost, the girls walked off the court with their head high.  They never gave up and they played really well.  We played five games against Lander.  In the 5th game, we were behind by 4 points and they came back and tied it up.  It was back and forth and finally Lander pulled ahead by two points and we lost.  Our match against Lander, was a total team effort and I was very proud of them.  Our serving could have been better, but Shawna contributed with 3 aces, Tayln 2 aces, and Vashti 2 aces.  We had some great hits in this game!  Vashti had 18 kills, Shawna had a great game with 12 kills, and Teerstyn had 10 kills.  These girls were putting the ball down and playing well at the net.  We had a great passing game, Taylor, Vashti, and Ali all had great passes.  Teerstyn had some great blocks! She had her record high with 6 stuff blocks per match.  She did a great job for us blocking and hitting.  Tayln did a great job with setting, she had 44 assists.  Defensively, we did a great job.  Taylor had 23 digs, Vashti had 15 digs, and Tayln had 13 digs.  Heidi, Tayln, Kyla, and Kassidy, did a great job off the bench this tournament.  They went into each game and gave 100% no matter where I put them on the court.  I was very proud of all 12 girls!  This season has been tough, but I am proud of the way they never gave up from one game to the next.  They are a great bunch of girls and it has been an honor to coach them.

Senior Night

Girls, we will miss you!!  Thank you for all your hard work!  Parents, thank you so much for all your support this year.  It sure makes a difference!  :)

Star Valley - Cokeville

Star Valley

This was senior night and the emotions were running pretty high.  All of our seniors are very hard workers and it has been a pleasure to coach them.  They are really good girls.  Star Valley is a very tough team.  I would say that they will place in the top 2 at state this year.  Star Valley has a strong middle that can block like crazy and put the ball down.  She is a very tough server.  We didn’t play as well as I would have hoped.  We did not pass very well which affected our whole game.  When we were able to get hits, we got blocked a lot.  On the positive side, it’s a great game to learn from, and we need to do this going into Regionals.  Bekah and Tayln both got all their serves in.  As far as kills, Vashti had 6, Teerstyn and Shawna with 3, and Bekah and Talyn with 2.  Vashti and Tayln both had 8 digs, and Taylor with 7 digs.

Cokeville

After a tough loss to Star Valley, I felt the girls came out fighting.  Cokeville is also a tough team, and they always have been.   They too had a great player on the outside that can hit from anywhere on the court.  She serves hard and she plays great defense.  We were able to shut her down quite a bit especially in the first game.  We won the first game and it was because we served hard at them and when we did get the ball back we were able to put the ball down.   Bekah did a great job with her serves in that game, she got us a lot of points.  The next three games we fought but we didn’t pass as well and we weren’t able to shut down their outside hitter.   Kyla and Shawna both served at a 100%!  Tayln had 5 aces!  Vashti had 14 kills and Teerstyn had 10 kills.  Bekah had 2 stuff blocks with Heidi and Teerstyn having one.  Tayln had 28 assists.  Taylor had 10 digs in that match.  Overall I felt that we played better at times, but not to our potential.   This week we will work hard and get ready for Regionals.  We will be playing Powell first game.

Jackson and Conference Duals

--> Jackson – Home

On Tuesday, we played Jackson at home.  It was a fantastic night for the Lady Wranglers!  Freshman, JV, and Varsity all pulled out big WINS!  Varsity came out a little slow to start, but they fought hard to the very end.  We have had some tough losses before this game, but I was proud of the way the girls handled the losses and came out fighting.  They played as a team, and overall they had fun!  As a team we served 94%, with Vashti, Bekah, Kyla, and Tayln all had 100% of their serves in.  Vashti had 7 aces and this is her all time high for aces.   Vashti also had 19 kills; Teerstyn had 7 kills, and Shawna and Bekah with 6 kills.  Taylor and Ali did a great job defending Jackson’s hits and passing out of serve receive.  Tayln had 39 assists and she did a great job setting.   This was a good win for us, one of which we needed.

Conference Duals

This was a challenging weekend for the Varsity.  We did not play as well as I would of hoped.  The last game on Sat. was against Jackson again, and we lost, BUT the girls came out playing like I know they can.  They fought hard but came up a bit short in the 5th game.   This year our conference is very interesting.  There really is not one team, maybe besides Star Valley, that is dominating the conference.  And really what it boils down to is who shows up to play that day.   We lost all four games, but we had some great moments.  I used my bench a lot this weekend, and it showed me as a coach that I really can depend on them.  Most of them are sophomores and a few juniors, but I was impressed on how they stepped up to the plate when given the chance.  Gilly McFarland came into a varsity match for the first time and helped us out with passing and defense.  She did a great job for us, but unfortunately, she hurt her ankle and may be out for the season.  Baylee Buchanan came in and helped us out with passing and defense and she did a great job.  I’m excited to work with her more and I know that she will contribute to our team.  Cassidy Williams got into a varsity match for the first time and served for us.  She also did a great job.   Vashti and Shawna had a great match against Jackson.  Vashti had 21 kills with Shawna having 7 kills.  Tayln contributed to that game with 45 assists.  It was a great game.    Overall, I hope we can put Conference Duals behind us and get ready for Star Valley on Thursday and Cokeville on Sat.  These two games will be really competitive matches, but great matches to play right before going into Regionals.  I’m excited to see what we can do.

JV- Lyman & Mt. View

For homecoming we played Lyman once again.  We had just played them the week before in Lyman.  Homecoming week seemed to have gotten to my JV girls because they were not as focused and ready to play as I had seen them before.  We fought hard the first game and won 27- 25 after coming from behind, but then we ended up losing the next 2.   These girls are working hard on pulling a whole match together especially when it goes to game 3.  Shaelee Stone & Gilly McFarland had 2 aces each.  Heidi Feck led the way with 11 kills, followed by Talyn Hutta with 6, and Kassidy Williams with 5.  Overall we passed really well at a 2.18 with Baylee Buchanan having a 2.33.

We had only one game this past week and traveled to play Mt. View for there homecoming.  Mt. View is a tough place to play.  They had a big and loud crowd, but the girls were excited to play.  We came out on top the first game and then did not play well the 2nd game and ended up losing the match by 2 in the third.  Once again pulling a whole match together focusing and playing well is something these JV girls are still learning to do.  I was proud how even though we lost pretty bad in the 2nd game we came back fighting until the end in the 3rd game.  Kyla Taylor had 4 aces.  Heidi Feck had 7 kills.  Baylee Buchanan and Gilly McFarland had the top passing with 2.0.  Kassidy Williams came away with 2 blocks.

Mt. View - Varsity

It was homecoming in Mt. View and the gym was packed.  My girls came out fighting the first game and second game.   We were not passing as well as we usually do, and our hitters were struggling.  We had a lot of hitting errors and that hurt us.   Bekah had a good hitting game.  She had 0 errors with 12 hits.  Tayln had 5 kills and Vashti had 7 kills.  We also struggled with our serves.  As a team we had a lot of miss serves with the exception of Kyla and Teerstyn.  They both served hard and they both did not miss a serve!!  Shawna did a good job playing middle.  This is a new position for her and she is improving every game.  We were able to get her some more sets.  Taylor had 13 digs, Ali had 8 digs, and Vashti with 7 digs.  Overall, we did not play as well as I would of hoped.  I know we are capable of a lot better.   We will work hard at practice on Monday and get ready for Jackson on Tuesday.  Then we travel to Cody for Conference Duals.

Lyman- Varsity

Lyman

The girls played better than when we played Lyman the week before.  After we played them a week ago, I switched up the line-up a little bit, and it seemed to make a difference. The first game was a nail-biter!  It really could have gone either way.   The second game Lyman took a big lead on us at the beginning of the game, but the girls kept fighting.  They all played really hard the third game and won that game.  The fourth game was another close game.  Overall they played well.  Every game that we are going to have from now on, will be close.  We are working hard in practice to learn how to win in those close matches.  Overall as a team we served 91%, which is good.  We made it a goal to be in the 90% as a team for serving.  Vashti had 19 kills and Teerstyn had 10 kills.  Taylor had a great passing game and defense game.  Lyman had some BIG hitters and Taylor did a great job digging up their hits, she had 19 digs!  Tayln had 35 assists and two aces.  Ali Wadsworth had a great defensive game.  She was able to dig up some of those hard hits.  Hopefully we will get a chance to play Lyman again, and this time the outcome will be different.

Freshman vs Lyman

Our freshman games against Lander and Kemmerer got cancelled. This left our only game for the week against Lyman. Our goal for the week was to beat Lyman since they had defeated us at our home tournament. We started the game off full of energy and ready to play and beat Lyman. The first game we started off battling and staying right with Lyman. Lyman barley got by us and beat us by two. The second game our intensity went way down. We had a lot of serving and hitting errors that put us behind. This was not a great game for us and we definitely didn’t play Pinedale volleyball.  Some positives from the Lyman game were that three girls served 100% (Lily Jensen, Sabrina Gay, & Savannah Rogers). Alexis Cabrera had another great game of passing and continues to help stop other team’s hard hits. Maeve Poulson came off the bench and stepped up with her passing also. The girls and I learned a lot from this game and this week in practice we know what we need to work on.
We will face Lyman again this week for Homecoming and then travel to Lyman for a freshman tournament. Come out and show your support!

Lander, Lyman, Kemmerer- JV

Boy did we have a busy week after returning home from the Rawlins Tournament.  We opened up the week with Lander at home on Thursday.  Lander's JV team is a young team and made lots of mistakes and Pinedale capitalized on those mistakes.  I was so proud of how the girls played their game and did not get caught up with the caos going on the other side of the net.  We had hard serves which made it very difficult for Lander to pass the ball. Heidi Feck lead the team with 5 aces followed by Kassidy Williams with 3.  Heidi also had a great hitting game and lead the team with 11 kills!  Baylee Buchanan played Libero for the first time and did awesome!  She had a 2.20 passing average.  Great job girls.

Pinedale 25- Lander 8
Pinedale 25- Lander 13

On Thursday we then traveled to Lyman to play and boy did we want some revenge from our close match in Rawlins.  Lyman is a very good team and we knew it would be a tough game, but we were up for the challenge.  The girls played great and came away with a big win in 2 games!  Kassidy Williams and Kyla Taylor led the team with 4 aces each!  Heidi Feck had 7 kills while Talyn Hutta and Kassidy Williams each contributed 3.     Heidi, Talyn, and Baylee Buchanan led the team with awesome passing.  Shaelee Stone also had a solo stuff block!  This one was a good one to come away with a win.

Pinedale 25- Lyman 23
Pinedale 25- Lyman 22

We finished out our long week by traveling to Kemmerer on Friday.  I had Gilly McFarland back to play with us in the this game and 2 of our freshman also got to come along as subs for us.  We had a big bench and was able to use every player.  We ended the week just as we started with 2 big wins. Baylee Buchanan still playing libero came up with some big serves for us with 4 aces.  She also had a 2.12 passing average.  Kyla Taylor had 19 assists and is such an asset to this team.  Heidi Feck had 6 kills followed by Shaelee Stone and Talyn Hutta with 4.

I'm so proud of these girls and their mental focus through out the week. We are improving each and every game to become better volleyball players  Keep up the good work girls and let's beat Lyman for Homecoming!

Rawlins Tournament- JV

I'm catching up on what's been going on with the JV.  We have been playing lots of games with very little practices in between, but it's been fun.  Last weekend we headed to Rawlins for a JV/Varsity Tournament.  This includes all the 3A teams in the state and is tons of fun because we get to play so many games.  On Friday we left at 6:30 am and apparently forgot to get off the bus for our first game. We lost to Wheatland 0-2.  We then played Worland which didn't turn out much better.  We rounded out the pool play with Cody.  They are a good time and finally we came around and split with them.

Day 2 of the tournament is bracket play. After a rough day we ended up 4th in our pool which put us in the Silver bracket.  We first faced Douglas in morning and finally the girls wanted to play and came out swinging hard.  We beat Douglas in 3 and moved on to the Semi-final where we faced Powell.  Powell is a tough team and ended up losing in 2 games.  We ended the day playing Lyman for 3/4 place and after a long long day ended up losing in 3 close games.   I was proud of how the girls ended the tournament and played hard.

Lander - Lyman - Kemmerer - Varsity

--> This was a very busy week for us.  We had three games, one of which was a conference match.

Lander – Varsity

This was a great and exciting game.  We just lost to Lander on Saturday, and to turn around and beat them in 4 was a great and exciting thing.  The girls came out playing hard!  I was very proud of them.  This was another great team effort, on and off the bench.  Everybody got into the game that was on my bench and contributed someway.  We did not serve as well as I would of liked, but we still got the job done.  Tayln had 4 aces, and Bekah and Shawna had 2 aces.  Teerystyn and Vashti both had 10 kills with Bekah Knapp having 5.  Tayln had a great setting game with 28 assists and she had 9 digs.  This was not a conference game, but it did tell us that we CAN beat Lander, and that is always a good thing.

Lyman – Varsity

Lyman has improved a lot this year.  They are a strong team, one of which we need to beat.  However, Thursday was not the night.  The girls played hard, but we had a lot of hitting and defense errors.  On the positive side, I felt that Taylor and Tayln, both seniors, did a great job.  Taylor had a great passing game; her passes were almost perfect every time.  She also had great defense with 7 digs and Tayln also had 7 digs.  Tayln had 23 assists.  We get the opportunity to play Lyman again this week for Homecoming.  We will be ready to play them again; hopefully the outcome will be different.

Kemmerer – Varsity

This was a great game!!  We came out a little slow, but as the game went on we picked up the pace.  We had GREAT and HARD hits!  Our girls came out swinging!  This was one of the best games I have seen the girls play in a long time.  We went 5 games with Kemmerer and that is a long time playing volleyball.  It was a very close match and it really could have gone either way.  I was proud that the girls didn’t let up; they kept on putting the ball down to the very end.  We served really well as a team, and we passed really well!!  These two things make all the difference!  Vashti had 24 kills with Teerstyn had 23 kills.  Shawna contributed with 10 kills.  Once again, Taylor had a great passing and defense game.  She had 23 digs.   Tayln had her ultimate high with assists, she had 64 assists!  Overall it was a very excited game!

Pinedale Freshman Tournament

Freshman got the honor of hosting the Pinedale Freshman tournament.  We started it all off with pool play against Jackson and Lander. Both teams we had faced prior at the Cody freshman tournament. First up was Jackson and it was a close first game. We just got by Jackson to win the first game. The second game we struggled with our serves and this allowed for Jackson to beat us. Since it was tied up it all came down to the third game. Lexi Bishop went on a serving streak and we used it to help us win the third game and defeat Jackson. We then faced Lander. It was a battle against Lander and we went three games with them. The girls fought and never gave up. Their intensity and drive to win was what won the game. Sabrina Gay and Lily Jensen kept the team going with their hits and blocks. After beating Jackson and Lander it placed us in the gold bracket with tough teams Lyman and Star Valley. We faced Lyman to start. It was a team effort and it took everyone on the team for this game. Lyman and hard serves and hits and Alexis Cabrera put a stop to them with her great passes. Lyman beat us in two games, making us go against Start Valley next. The girls fought hard and we went three games with Star Valley. They fell a little short and lost to them barely. Savannah Rogers really stepped up in this game as our setter and helped get great setts to our hitters. We finished up the tournament in 3rd place. We have now got 3rd place in two tournaments. I am so proud of the girls and all their hard work.
This week we play Lander Tuesday, Lyman Thursday, and Kemmerer Friday. The girls are excited to play Lander again and get the rematch against Lyman.

Big Piney and Rawlins Tournament - Varsity

Big Piney

This was a great win for us!  The girls needed it!  I felt like the girls played hard and played as a team.  They had confidence in themselves and each other.  We had three girls that served 100%; Kyla Taylor, Taylor Connors, and Teerstyn Johnson.  Kyla came in and did a great job for us.  This was her first time in a varsity match and her serves were very consistent and hard.  I was very proud of her.  Bekah Knapp had 5 aces, Heidi Feck had 3 aces, and Tayln Costello had 2 aces.  As far as hitting, Vashti had a great hitting game; she had 15 kills.  Teerstyn had a great hitting game too with 9 kills; both girls came out swinging hard.  Taylor Connors had a great defense game and passing game.  She had 13 digs and her passes were merely perfect.   Overall, this game was a total team effort on and off the bench.  Everybody on my bench got into the game and contributed somehow.  Way to go girls!!

Rawlins Tournament

This is always a great tournament to go to because you get to see all 3A teams.  On Friday, my girls played really well.  We were a little slow to start, but we finished strong!  We played Wheatland first, and we lost both games to them.  The girls were playing hard, but we missed some important serves towards the end.  Our next game was Worland.  We beat Worland and the girls played really well.  The first game was pretty close, but as we came out the 2nd game we dominated from the very beginning.  One of out team goals for this game was to have a 90% or better in serving as a team and we were able to accomplish this in this game and the game against Cody.  After Worland we played Cody.  This was a very exciting and intense game!  We played Cody in Riverton and barely lost to them.  They girls knew they could beat Cody.  The first game was a nail -biter.  We were behind and we came back and lost by 1.  After the first game, when my girls came into the huddle you could tell they were going to win the next game; there was no question about it, they were determined.  They played hard to the end and we pulled out a win.  This was the first time Pinedale beat Cody in volleyball for a very long time.  We actually tied for 2nd place in our pool play, but because of our lost to Wheatland we came in 3rd .  As a result, that meant we were in the Silver bracket.
Saturday we came out playing New Castle.  This was a game we should of won, but had a lot of  errors.  We took them in three games and lost the last game by 3.  This was a tough lost for us.  The last team that we played in this tournament was Lander.  We lost to them in two.  The first game was a very close game, and we lost by 2.  The 2nd game was not so close.  We play Lander on Tuesday, and we are hoping to have a different outcome with them.
Overall, we learned a lot from this tournament.  We have the potential to play with all these teams and come out with a lot of wins.  We just need to fine-tune some things and really focus on making fewer errors as a team.  I’m excited for Tuesday; our goals are to come out strong, and come out swinging.

Freshman- Mt. View, Star Valley, & Big Piney

Mountain View
Score:
16-25
20-25
Coming off their 3rd place tournament win, the freshman faced Mountain View at home. This was the freshman’s first high school home volleyball game. Being their first home game their excitement and nerves where all running high to start the game. Nerves definitely got the best of us and we lost to Mountain View in two. In our first game we struggled with hitting and being confident in our movements. The girls didn’t talk and forgot the simple cues that we practice every day. After the first game we got some of the nervousness out and started playing. 6 of our girls served 100% in this game. Shelbi Tegeler added in 4 hitting aces to help us fight back and make it a close second game. Getting the first home game out of the way is always good and let us see what we need to continue to work on.

Star Valley
Score:
22-25
17-25
We next made the trip to Star Valley. Star Valley is a tough team and we knew going into the game we would have to fight for every point. It was a close battle and Star Valley barely got by us in the first game. The second game we fell behind early on. The girls didn’t give up and stayed positive. Staying positive and not getting down is something as a team we have been working on. This game I got to see a huge turnaround in our girls and they had great attitudes for the whole entire game. I believe this is what made us come back and stay in the second game.  7 of our girls served 100% for the whole game. Sabrina Gay had 2 hitting aces in the game. It was a total team effort and we fought hard.

Big Piney
25- 21
25- 14
The Big Piney game is always a big game every year. Freshman came in focused and ready to play on their home court. To start the game we came out firing and got an early lead. We then ran into some serving and defensive transition problems, which lead to Big Piney catching up with us. With a total team effort, the girls pulled together to win the first game. Going into the second game we knew that our transitions had to be smoother and as a team. This is something we have been working on and have struggled in past games. In the second game it finally all came together and the girls pulled ahead of Big Piney and didn’t look back. Highlights of the game was Savannah Rogers having 8 serving aces and Lily Jensen having 3 hitting kills to help us bring home the victory. We learned a lot from this game and what we need to work on. I am so proud of each and every girl on the team. It takes every single freshman on the team to win each game!

JV- Mt. View, Star Valley, Big Piney

Mt. View-

This was the first time the whole JV has played together in a game and for even a practice since we scrimmage the Varsity it is hard for all of my girls to play together at the same time.  For the first time out together I though they did very well overall.  They are learning that they have to be focused the whole match to pull out a win which is what happened against Mt. View.  We won the first set lost the 2nd then ended up losing the 3rd.  It wasn't that the girls played bad or Mt. View was better than us because our stats were really good, we just lost focus in key moments where we could not afford to.  The girls are getting better and better each game about understanding that.  Hana had a great serving game she only missed one serve and had 3 aces. Gilly had 100% serving with 10 serves.  Talyn and Gilly led the team with kills with 6 each and Heidi was close behind with 5.  Baylee passed the ball amazing with a 2.26 average and it really helped contributing to the kills.

Star Valley-

The girls had something to prove after losing to Mt. View in 3.  We really stressed being focused the whole time and finishing to the end in our pre-game talk and boy did they come to show me they could do it.  We beat Star Valley in 2 games.  The first set was a dog fight, the score was 29-27 Pinedale.  I was so proud at how hard they fought to win that first game.  After the win they let down a little bit and we had to come from behind, but they never gave up and played until the very end and ended up winning 25-20.  Gilly once again had 100% serving game.  Heidi and Talyn both had 2 aces.  Kyla had some great sets and ended with 13 assists for the match.

Big Piney-

After a long labor day weekend we came back to finish out our 3 Matches in a row with Big Piney at home. The girls had something to prove since they lost the last game at home.  They not only wanted to win but wanted to in dominating fashion.  Big Piney is a long time rival and it was fun to get the win in 2 games on our home floor. We still gave away too many points from our unforced errors but the girls are learning what a mind game volleyball is.  I'm proud of them for not getting down on themselves and fighting back to win the second set.  Heidi had 4 kills. Carly and Tayln both had 3 kills. Baylee passed at a 2.00 serve receive. Shaelee had a solo stuff block.  Our serving really won this game for us.  We served tough and had 15 aces as a team with Kyla leading the way with 4 of those 15.

Mt. View and Star Valley - Varsity

Mt. View Varsity

Scores: 18 – 25, 22 – 25, and 16 – 25

This was a tough lost for us.  It was our first home game, first conference match, and a first varsity game for most girls on the court.  They were nervous and excited!  In all three games, we had some great moments and some moments that were not so great.  Mt. View is a very well coached team and they had great fundamentals.  They do not have big hitters, but they served at us strong, and they were able to play defense and pass well when they needed to.  I felt like they made us make the mistakes and we lost because of our mistakes, not because they are a better team than us.  I told the girls that we will learn from each game and we will improve each game we play.  This was definitely a great game to learn from.   Talyn Hutta and Tayln Costello had a great serving game, they did not miss one serve and Talyn had 1 ace and Tayln had 3 aces.  Bekah Knapp had a great game off the bench.  She came in and had 7 kills and Vashti Fandek and Shawna Rule both had 5 kills.  Taylor Connors had a great passing game and she had 10 digs and Shawna Rule had 6 digs.

Star Valley Varsity

Scores:  15-25, 13-25, 15-25

This was a better game for us, even though we lost; the girls played a lot better!!  It was a great team effort.  Star Valley is a good team!  We will see them at State.  They have a lot of experience players, but two of these players are pretty solid.  As a team, we passed well and we served better than the Mt. View game.  Taylor and Tayln had great serving games, where they both did not miss a serve.  Vashti had 10 kills for us with Shawna having 6 kills.  Shawna Rule had a great passing and defense game.  She had 9 digs.  Tayln had 24 assists for the night.  Teerstyn Johnson had some great blocks that helped us out with our defense.

JV Riverton Tournament

I love this tournament.  It is the first games of the season and gives me a chance to see how far we have come after 2 weeks of 2 a day practices.  The girls had worked hard and now it was time to show it.  Since JV and Varsity are in different pools and brackets we have to split the teams and not share any players.  It turns out being really fun because of this we only have 7 players.  They gets lots and lots of playing time to improve their skills.

We opened up with Thermopolis in pool play and boy did the girls look scared to play. Eventually they let go of the nerves and ended up splitting with them.  They went through out pool play and split with every single team including 2 4A schools Sheridan and Riverton.  I was so proud after the first day of play.  They were learning to play with each other and to trust each other as teammates.  We had some close games and at least gave everyone in our pool a loss.  The next day we opened up with Rock Springs in Bracket play.  They were an awesome team and had done well in the other pool.  We played AWESOME!  I was so proud of our fundamental defense and pure determination to win.  We sent Rock Springs home in 3 close games!  The girls were SO excited!  We then met up with Riverton and got worn down.  We took the first game and then ended up losing the next two.

Overall I think the girls learned a lot and had a great weekend.  I was proud of them for never giving up in a match and putting up a fight until the very end. I'm excited about the season and what these girls are capable of accomplishing.

Freshman Cody Tournament

Freshman started the season off with heading to Cody for a freshman tournament. In pool play they split with Powel and Jackson and lost to Worland. Lexi Metz and Lilly Jensen had some big hits against Powel. Sabrina Gay had two huge blocks against Jackson. Alexis Cabrera had numerous passes against Worland that helped us stay in the game. The girls then went into the bracket and faced a tough team. They fell short and lost to Cody. They fought hard and Izzy Wills contributed several passes and hits. Maeve Poulson helped the back row with Cody’s tough serves. Keely Sandner also kept the team going with her positive attitude. The girls then played for 3rd place against Lander. They won in two finishing the tournament in 3rd place. Dani Blankenship went on a serving streak of 8 aces. Savannah Rogers also went on a serving streak of 5 aces to help contribute in winning the game. Shelbi Tegeler has been working on her jump serves and was able to spot serve successfully in each game.
I am very proud of the girls and all of their hard work. I look forward to what the rest of the season holds for us! We next play Mountain View at home, this Thursday at 4pm, and I hope everyone will come out and show their support.

Varsity McDonald Invitational Tournament

Pinedale Volleyball had a great weekend!  Our freshman team took 3rd place in Cody!  I was really happy to see that they got third place.  Jennifer Bockman is our new freshman coach and she has been doing an outstanding job with our freshman team!  Our JV and Varsity teams were in Riverton playing in the McDonald Invitational Tournament.  I was really happy with both JV and Varsity and how they played!

Varsity
On Friday was pool play and we came out a little nervous and we split with Thermopolis.  As the day went on we continued to split with Wright, Tongue River, and Riverton.  When we came up against Sheridan, we did come out strong and won both of those matches.  At the end of the day, that put us in a three-way tie with Riverton and Sheridan for 1st place.  Because of points, we came in third place going into bracket play.  On Saturday, we played Big Horn and beat them in two games.  25-21 and 25-19.  It was single elimination and we played Cody next.  Cody is  a very competitive and tall team and they have always been that way.  We were ahead by 10 at one point, and then we made some errors and they came back and won 25-23.  The second game our girls came out strong and fighting and we fought with them all the way to the end. We lost 25-22.  This was a great learning game for us.  We missed several serves in the second game and had some rotation calls against us.  My girls have learned that we can’t miss serves especially when it is a tight match.  I was very proud of the girls and the way they played both days!  I threw a couple of different line-ups and they all handled it very well.  They have improved a lot from the first game to the last game.  I love this first tournament because we learn so much, both the players and the coaches.  We have our first home game on Thursday, and we are really excited!  I hope a lot of people will come out and support our volleyball team!

Sacred Rim

This is such a fun and beautiful hike and I love doing it with the girls!  We had a great trip!  When we got there, the girls got into groups and came up with some awesome cheers that made us giggle!  Following the cheers, we all read our favorite quotes!  Here are some pictures, I hope you enjoy them!
